The Coral Reef Rescue (GEF CRR) project supports a global initiative to protect coral reef ecosystems identified as climate refuges, vital for biodiversity and coastal communities. Focused on six countries—Fiji, Solomon Islands, Indonesia, Philippines, Madagascar, and Tanzania—this initiative strengthens capacity and solutions for long-term reef survival.

Led by UQ’s International Development Unit, the project collaborates with national hubs, local communities, and global partners to:

  • Build a global knowledge network and tools for effective reef conservation.
  • Develop national action plans informed by local insights and global research.
  • Establish sustainable livelihood projects and investment strategies.
  • Raise awareness of the critical role of climate refuge reefs.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading Project Delivery: Oversee daily operations of the Coral Reef Rescue Project, ensuring alignment with goals, coordinating activities across six countries, and supervising National Technical Facilitators (NTFs).
  • Stakeholder and Resource Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with project stakeholders, manage contracts and agreements, and monitor project outcomes, reporting progress against objectives and budgets.
  • Team Leadership and Representation: Guide the Project Management Unit (PMU), external consultants, and partners while representing the project at global steering committees and international knowledge-sharing events.
