2024: A Year in Review

As we wrap up 2024, it’s time to celebrate the strides we’ve made this year. From growing our audience to delivering impactful insights, it’s been a remarkable journey. Here’s a closer look at the numbers and the stories behind them.

Growth Highlights

This year, our community grew in leaps and bounds.

On LinkedIn, we expanded our follower base by an impressive 76%.

Meanwhile, our email subscriber list grew by 39.5%.

LinkedIn

Our presence on LinkedIn flourished in 2024, with several milestones worth celebrating. Over the course of the year, our posts reached nearly a quarter of a million impressions—247,892, to be exact.

Our InDev Leaders Series recap was the standout performer, gathering over 41,000 impressions and sparking vibrant discussions. Close behind was the launch of our New Zealand Ecosystem Map, which was warmly received by our followers.

The engagement didn’t stop there. We recorded 2,031 reactions to our posts, almost double last year’s total of 1,155. But what truly stands out is the surge in clicks—growing from 4,926 in 2023 to a remarkable 13,092 in 2024, underscoring the value our audience finds in the content we share.

Emails

Our newsletter continued to thrive in 2024, with over 25,000 emails sent to an engaged audience. With an average open rate of 54%, it’s clear that our readers appreciate the updates we bring to their inboxes.

Interestingly, LinkedIn remains the primary way people discover our newsletter, with 58.7% of subscribers signing up through the platform. As for the content itself, development sector news topped the interest charts, with nearly 70% of respondents identifying it as their favorite topic. Pacific news followed closely at 67%, while South Asia (36.4%) and local updates (38%) ranked lower.

Jobs

Our InDev Jobs Board, launched just six months ago, has already proven to be a valuable resource, with 162 jobs posted since July 2024.

Melbourne emerged as the top location, with 20.9% of roles based in the city, followed by international positions, and then Canberra, Sydney, and Brisbane. Remote roles made up 12.9% of all listings, reflecting the growing flexibility in the sector.

NGOs led the pack, accounting for nearly 47% of roles, with managing contractors and facilities making up 26%. In terms of job types, Program Management dominated, representing 35% of postings, followed by Management (11%) and Monitoring & Evaluation (10%).

Interestingly, three-quarters of roles listed in Melbourne and Sydney were in the NGO sector, while Canberra saw a more balanced mix, with contractor roles taking the lead.

Our Followers

Our community is as diverse as it is engaged, and it’s exciting to see who makes up the fabric of our audience.

Among our email subscribers, NGOs and contractors form the largest groups, with 35% and 30%, respectively. Consultants also play a significant role, with 39% of new followers identifying as such. Many of our loyal supporters have been with us since the very beginning—special thanks to Peter Russell from International SOS, our very first subscriber back in October 2021!

On LinkedIn, Brisbane boasts the largest group of followers, accounting for just over 10% of our audience. Our followers represent a mix of organization sizes, with the largest cohort being from organizations with 1,001–5,000 employees (21.7%), followed by smaller organizations with 11–50 staff (17.1%).

2024 Highlights

Two initiatives stand out as defining moments this year:

  • NZ Ecosystem Map: This project brought greater visibility to the sector and sparked meaningful connections.
  • Leaders Series: A platform for thought leaders, this series fostered engaging discussions and deepened our community’s understanding of key issues.
  • Aus Ecosystem Database: While we have had to delay releasing the new map, the release of the database is an incredible first step to great collaboration.

As we reflect on a year of growth and impact, we’re immensely grateful to everyone who has supported us. Here’s to building on these achievements in 2025!

We look forward to kicking off 2025 with the launch of the New Australian Development Ecosystem Map!
